FYI-
I spoke with Cliff Marchetti rearding the upcoming
rate increases. As some of you may remember, last
year they increased our rates another 10% and promised
that we would only see two more rate increases of 10%
over the following two years (2006 & 2007), and then
there would be a freeze. At the finance subcommittee
mtg. it was revealed that they are now seriously
considering increases of 14% and possibly more. When I
asked Cliff Marchetti about this, he said that the
increase was a definite possibility! Every other time
Marina management has said a rate increase was a
possibility, it went through!
I was also told by someone in a mgmt. position that
the city is considering privatization because the
costs are getting out of control.
Since moving to the marina in 2002, the rates have
increased EVERY year! And 10% was the smallest
increase. And as in the past, in addition to the
per/ft increases, you can probabaly expect additional
increases to the upwind slip surcharges, single berth
surcharges, etc...
This is really getting out of hand and has been
dowright abusive.
BTW- Is there anyone who actually is still a member of
BBOA? This message board seems awfully quiet for a
group of people who are supposed to be rallying for
change. I've only seen posts by Zach and a smattering
of comments by others (3 - I think).
I've resigned from the committees because it seemed
that there was a definite sense of apathy, and no
consistent leadership. This makes me sad. I had high
hopes as did others that this organization would be a
success.
As such, i won't be going to the meeting on Weds.. A
lone voice will accomplish nothing and ultimately be
ignored. And frankly, if it doesn't matter to anyone
else why are the few of us fighting so hard?
Do your part, show up, and say something - or don't
complain on the docks about lack of services for what
you pay every month. I hear people constantly
complaining but never see them asking questions in the
office, or attending meetings. If you can't make a
meeting then call Mark Seleznow the city's parks & Rec
director. Call the city attorney. Call the Mayor. Call
city council. Just do something.
I saw a great bumpersticker last week. It read "If you
don't vote, don't bitch". I think it's appropriate.
I'll apologize in advance if I've offended anyone with
the tone or language I've used, but it someone had to
say it.
My hat is off to Zach for constantly keeping us
updated. Keep up the great work - maybe we should
elect you as president!
Best of luck - see you around the marina,
Dan Augustine
