My name is Erwan Illien. I did attend the meeting this
past week. I adressed a couple of serious flaws in the
budget. One is that if we were to use the resources
generated by the marina itself, we boaters should have
a say as how money is spent. While money has to be
spent on improvements, We probably then would not want
to spend upwards of 600,000.00 as is now the case on a
bathroom! Remember the marina budget is about to go in
the red.
Secondly I wanted to know how we could find out and
who should we talk to to review the payroll cost
attached to the marina which to me seem rather
unbelievable; while the total receipt for the marina
yearly is around 2,750.000, the payroll reaches
2,500.000. You mean 25 people at 100,000 a year.
Impossible. Last  I learned that I need to go to the
city council to voice my complaint on how we were
charged an extra 2% to pay for the fireworks last
year. This to me is completely unfair as it is not for
us but for all the people of Berkeley and beyond. With
tactics such as this if we don't protest, there is
apparently nothing to stop them from doing it again.
Finally, when is our next meeting? We have a great
privilege by being able to live on our boats. A
responsibility comes with it.  I speak to too many who
have lowered their arms. That is something we also
need to turn around. See you around the docks.
