Janet - thanks for the history on this ... It makes better sense now.

Keith- When I said general fund I was referring to the Marina General Fund,
not the City's. As I understand it the Marina is a stand alone District (I
can't recall the formal name for it), which doesn't allow it to draw any
funding from the City. Supposedly the City can't touch the Marina Funds
either. Janet has the experience and knowledge and can probably explain it
better than I.

Wow - I'd really like to hear more about this. $700K from the GENERAL FUND?
And then, what, loan the money to the Marina fund with interest???? If the
general fund has that much in cash reserve that they can loan money to the
marina fund, then they are fat enough to pay for the fireworks. Other
city's general funds actually do financially support things outside the
general fund - such as swimming pools and airports and cemeteries.

I'd love the details on this one.

Janet

The one thing that has me a little concerned is what the City is saying
about hte Housebaots. According to them Boating and Waterways will not fund
a loan for houseboats slips.

The City is saying they will have to come up with $700K to pay for the 12
slips from the General Fund.

Is that true? Can you give a run down on what you know about the funding for
H - I Docks.

All, I will also be there. We have had one boat pull out of the docks and
sink, two other boats pulled out cleats in this last weeks' storms and the
water system went out last night. There have been two sewage spills from
the pumpout and sewage lines on H-I. They are now talking about Aggressive
Maintenance. About 20 years too late, I'd say. We asked that H-I be
restored for the last ten years. There is a City-contracted engineering
study of about four years ago that said H-I docks are completely
unsafe. The City is a service provider. We are paying increasing fees for
that service -- which is sadly lacking. We must rally and stick together
if we are going to save this Marina from its management and their
overseers. JSC
