[Bboa-members] Recycling.. Our rates may go up but city svcs aren't improving.

Folks,

I'd like to take a quick straw poll. Has anyone else noticed that
recycling doesn't seem to happen reliably? At O dock one bin hasn't been
emptied in months. I think they just empty the other bin into the trash
occasionally.

This is really a problem for a coouple reasons.
a) promotes sloppy city aspect to tourists & city users
b) when recycling is overflowin & the wind kicks up trash gets blown into
the marina. (Should the city recycling program be fined?)

I don't blame the local marina staff. I do want to get some more info
from others before requesting that they lay in a formal complaint to the
city services department on our behalf to have recycling done more
regularly. If it's more endemic than just O dock, then The Harbor master's
office can use this to lobby for us ( FYI I've called several times
myself to the Berkeley recycling, but get a VM that says you'll be fined
if you don't call within 24hrs of expected pickup).

Can folks please keep an eye on the recling at your respective docks for a
week, and see if bins get emptied? Perhaps you've noticed that same
newspaper article from Decemer 2005 on the top of the pile for a while..

Then please send me (or the list) feedback & we can summarize.

IF we work together we can support the local marina in becoming a better
place by providing constructive feedback.

Thanks!

Zach
