[Bboa-members] Recycling.. Our rates may go up but city svcs aren'timproving.

It is about time we had another meeting... Why don't we start planning
something for late June.

On another note... Thursday night was a Neighborhood Watch meeting and we
proposed more changes. We talked for over one hour and made a number of
proposals. The bottom line was we expressed to the Staff that we want to see
them working for us.

Although 8% is a bite, it was far less than they were originally discussing
(14%). I think that was in part due to the efforts of our members. Over the
last couple of months the Harbor Master has done some small things that did
make a difference.

- They replaced some cement Docks
- They trimmed trees along the Marina Path and parking lots, making it safer
and better lit.
- They are experimenting with the O Dock parking lot to make it safer.
- Signs have been posted on the gates with emergency numbers.
- They replaced or repaired a number of dock lights.

Most of this was accomplished by letting the Harbor Master know there was a
problem. She seems to be responsive to requests. I would suggest that
everyone with problems direct them to the Harbor Master at:
ahardinger at ci.berkeley.ca.us

Also just a side note... If you look at the Police Crime Map, you will find
that we are experiencing over 10 auto burglaries a month and one stolen car.
I strongly recommend that everyone report suspicious people or vehicles
directly to the Police at either 510-918-5900 (Non-Emergency) or via Cell
Phone at 510-981-5911 (Emergency).

The Police Crime map can be found at:

It seems to me that our original efforts have paid off
some. But there is a lack of real energy ( too many no
shows, no organized get together in many months). Also
it does not seem to be just an 8% increase to me.
Weren't we charged an extra 2% last year to pay for
fireworks? If that is so, then that fee is now a
hidden part of the base price making this really a 10%
rate increase. Not bad when you are the recipient.
Furthermore nothing seems to have been done to remedy
the essential problems of the budget. Did you see the
figures regarding the budget for personnel. This is
insane. As long as this is going on how can there be a
solution.................
